Merdeka Chess Tournament – Celebrate Independence with Strategy!
Hi chess lovers, parents, and students!
You’re invited to join our special Merdeka Chess Tournament in conjunction with Malaysia’s 68th Independence Day. This is not just a battle of the minds, but a chance to make friends and show true sportsmanship!
Event Details
Date: 23 August 2025 (Friday)
Time: 9:00 am (Please arrive early for a short briefing!)
Venue: Idaman Hatiku Care Center
Entry Fee: RM15 (used fully for tournament management)
Prizes: Digital certificate for all & Special “Best Sportsmanship” Award!
Open to: Primary & secondary school students (Under-12 & Under-17 categories)
Tournament Format
Swiss Pairing System
Each player will play 5 rounds
Win: 1 point
Draw: 0.5 points
Loss: 0 points
No repeat opponents (everyone gets to meet different players each round—fair and fun!)
Game Time: 7 minutes per player, no increment (think fast, play smart!)
Result Reporting: After each round, players must report the results (win, draw, loss) to the organizers.
Friendly Rules & Reminders
Please arrive 10 minutes early for a quick briefing before we start.
No outside assistance allowed during games—bring your best game, not your “coach”!
Practice good manners and sportsmanship—chess teaches respect!
No chess apps, phones, or books during games.
Official chess boards and pieces will be provided at every table.
Only players are allowed in the tournament area (to help everyone focus).
Tips for Players
Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy each game!
Don’t worry about losing—every match is a learning experience.
Remember who your opponent was and which color you played (white/black)—it’s fun to look back on your games!
Respect the decisions of organizers and arbiters.
Most important: HAVE FUN!
Certificates & Awards
Every participant will receive a digital certificate (sent via WhatsApp/email).
The “Best Sportsmanship” award will be announced on tournament day—it’s not just for winners, but for those who show the best spirit and attitude!
Results & Standings
The latest round-by-round results will be displayed live at [this link] (updated throughout the event).
Parents and players can check their progress and standings anytime.
